I was really nervous my first day of work. When I got to work the first day, I remember my dad dropping me off and how scared I was going into the building. I had to press a button to call somebody to open the door for me and I remember building the courage to press the little button. After I got inside the office, I had to fill out some paperwork. I also got a tour of the entire office and I was introduced to everyone. There are only 20 or so people that work at Alpheon so it didn't take very long. After, I was handed off to Amos Brown, my boss. He showed me my desk and asked me some questions about networking- what I already knew and what I wanted to learn. There wasn't much work the first day; it was mostly just getting to know everyone.
After the first week, I got comfortable with the people and my surroundings. I loved going to work. Usually, I would get to work around 8:30 a.m. and leave at 4:30 p.m. When I arrived at work I would greet everyone and then go to my desk and check my e-mail. Amos usually would send me an e-mail of the day's schedule. The e-mail would also include a few networking review questions or a configuration to do in the lab. I would spend my mornings working on the tasks from the daily e-mail and in the afternoon, I would either finish the tasks or go to a customer site. I really enjoyed going to customer sites because I got to see how Alpheon operated as a business. Although I am mostly interested in studying engineering in college, this defiantly got me thinking about minoring in business.
Working at Alpheon was the best experience of my life. I loved working with such great people and being able to learn so much in such a short amount of time. I believe the skills I obtained from this internship will help me not only in my future career but also with any goal I wish to achieve.
