Proposal Guidelines
For the 2009-10 Cohort, opening Academies in Fall 2010
The stages of the Academy Development Model relate to successive phases of the Academy planning, development, and growth process.
Important Deadlines and Requirements
December 1, 2008 Letter of Intent due to NAF
January 15, 2009 Year of Planning Proposal Deadline with Letters of Support
February, 2009 NAF Selection Committee reviews proposals, YOP Sites conditionally approved
April 15, 2009 Deadline for schools to send acceptance letter and sponsorship option form
May 15, 2009 Deadline for submitting YOP Services Agreement to NAF.
June 9, 2009 Deadline for submitting all YOP service fees to NAF.
Stages 1 - 3 represent the planning process prior to submitting a proposal to NAF, for teams considering whether to pursue an Academy affiliated with NAF. These stages are fully described in the Academy Planning Guide (click here to request a Planning Guide).
Stage 4 represents the commitment phase, when NAF and local partners mutually agree to enter into a Year of Planning. This culminates in a signed Year of Planning Services Agreement between the district and NAF, which defines specific supports, assistance and expectations for Academy teams from NAF and delivered through regional meetings, national conferences, and intensive technical assistance.
Stage 5 represents the conduct of the Year of Planning including a separate set of tools such as the Year of Planning GuidebookTM.
In working through this model, some teams may decide that the time is not yet right to reform their schools. Others may decide that, while reform is necessary and timely, non-NAF models are a better fit. For those who do decide to seek a partnership with NAF, please request a full Academy Planning Guide, which will help in organizing required local efforts toward developing a proposal to participate in the 2009-10 NAF Year of Planning (YOP), in order to launch an Academy in Fall 2010.
All Year of Planning Proposals are due to NAF no later than January 15, 2009.
