Recommended Course Sequencing

 

The Academy of Hospitality and Tourism is designed as a three- or four-year course of study, with core academic curriculum supplemented by industry specific courses. While the hospitality and tourism curriculum is designed to follow a planned sequence, schools do have the flexibility to tailor this sequence as needed, to meet local requirements.

Recommended Course Sequencing

Each course covers one semester. A single asterisk (*) indicates a course that was not created by NAF, but may usually be found within a high school's existing curriculum. A double asterisk (**) denotes courses that may be offered by a local college or university.

Option I: Academy of Hospitality and Tourism Three-Year Program

Pre-Academy

       Recruitment, application, and selection of students

       Preparedness activities/skills infusion lessons (including Strategies for Success)

Tenth Grade

       Fundamentals of Hospitality and Tourism
Travel Geography for Hospitality and Tourism

       *Business Computer Applications

       *Foreign Language

Eleventh Grade

       Hospitality & Tourism Systems

       Hospitality

       Economics for Hospitality and Tourism

Twelfth Grade

       Business for Hospitality & Tourism and/or Sports, Entertainment, and Events

       *Marketing

       **College-level Hospitality & Tourism Related Courses

Option II: Academy of Hospitality & Tourism: Four-Year Program

Ninth Grade

       Strategies for Success

       *Basic Computer Course

Tenth Grade

       Fundamentals of Hospitality and Tourism

       Business Computer Applications

Eleventh Grade

       Hospitality and Tourism Systems

While this option is valid for many Academies, NAF strongly recommends providing students with exposure to a range of career paths (through Options I or II).  We request that any Academy considering this model please consult with NAF before making its final course sequencing decision.
