Recommended Course Sequencing

The Academy of Finance is designed as a three- or four-year program of study, with core academic curriculum supplemented by industry specific courses.  The finance curriculum is designed to follow a planned sequence.  Schools do have the flexibility, however, to tailor this sequence to meet local needs and requirements.

Each course covers one semester. A single asterisk (*) indicates a course that was not created by NAF, but may usually be found within a high school's existing curriculum. A double asterisk (**) denotes courses that may be offered by a local college or university.

Academy of Finance Three-Year Program

Pre-Academy

       Recruitment, application, and selection of students

       Preparedness activities/skills infusion lessons (including Strategies for Success)

Tenth Grade Fall Semester

       Introduction to Financial Services I

       *Computer Applications

       *Foreign Language

       * Accounting I

Spring Semester

       Introduction to Financial Services II

       English for Finance (Infusion Materials)

       *Business Computer Applications

       *Foreign Language

       * Accounting II

Eleventh Grade

       Banking & Monetary Policy

       English for Finance (Infusion Materials)

       Economics and the World of Finance

       Securities & Insurance (should be given in the junior year for internship preparation)

Summer Internship

Minimum six-eight week paid industry workplace-based experience
