High School Truth & Corporate Dare
The National Academy Foundation (NAF) is launching an exciting initiative to deepen the involvement of companies that may already be working with our Academies, but have the capacity to impact many more. The High School Truth & Corporate Dare challenges corporations to add NAF to their menus of employee volunteer options, giving employees a window into the truth about the successes and failures of American high schools.
After carefully researching the more than 2,500 companies that already have volunteers on NAF Advisory Boards, we selected 100 to approach about this initiative. Through the High School Truth & Corporate Dare, NAF invites CEOs to apply for their companies to receive our Corporate Courage Award.
As part of the award, companies agree to:
- Identify 2-3 additional geographic locations to deepen their involvement with NAF academies;
- Identify employees at the designated locations to serve on local NAF Advisory Boards;
- Host a company-wide, one-day Job Shadowing event in the designated locations in Fall 2008 for 15-25 high school students;
- Partner with Academies in designated areas for a Reverse Shadowing event where employees spend a day at a high school in Spring 2009;
- Establish at least 15 total paid internships in the designated locations for Summer 2009;
- Add NAF to the menu of options in their Employee Giving Program; and
- Extend corporate matching gift options, when appropriate, to include the National Academy Foundation.
The goal of this initiative is to create awareness at the CEO level of how their employees are already contributing to NAF Academies-resulting in more internships, more advisory board members, and more visibility across the country.
Specific benefits to participating Academies include:
- A $1,000 grant from NAF to implement job shadowing activities when Corporate Courage Award winners designate your area as a focus location;
- 50% of the proceeds NAF receives from Employee Giving Programs when the donors are located in your town or city;
- New relationships with national or regional companies that are committed to connecting young people with employee volunteerism;
- Advisory board members, paid internships, and local visibility; and
- The support of a dedicated staff person from NAF's development department who is committed to the implementation of a quality partnership.
